The cat-eye style of makeup has always managed to intrigue several fashionistas and fans alike. Those dramatically lined eyes make a bold and flirty statement, while creating a long-lasting impression. The look has been around since the 50’s, and has allured the interest of women, and many celebrities too. For many, the first person to pop up in the mind at the mention of ‘cat-eye makeup’ is Audrey Hepburn. Her look In the movie ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ was at the helm of innovative fashion in that era, and still rules the fashion and makeup trends worldwide. From the 1930’s through the 1950’s, several celebrities sported the cat-eye look and proved to be the role models for current trends in makeup and fashion.

 

rihannaMovie stars like Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba, Leighton Meester, etc have been sporting this look quite often, and so have Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Adele, Tyra Banks and Taylor Swift. Amy Winehouse is one of the celebrities credited for bringing back the cat-eye style, endorsing it almost religiously. She was seldom spotted without her renowned cat-eye make-up, and even though she is no more, she has left behind a trend that shall pertain for long.

The look has been timeless for generations, but has seen its fair share of changes every now and then. The variants in cat eye makeup range from classy and chic, to downright funky. A daring option is to apply a thick liner above the eye, with the liner below in a default thickness. Or if you are the edgy kind, try and include a little interruption in the bottom line; pair it with a shapely corner, and you’ve got a stunner!

 

The brands have supported the look for long, and offer numerous products to suit every catty need. Lancôme’s Artliner comes in Smoke or Ice Black, two softer shades respectively closer to blue-black and gray, that still make an impact. If you prefer the control of a brush, Bobbi Brown’s famous gel eyeliner is not one to miss out on. It looks like a liquid, but grants you the ease of less-messy gel. Also, Max Factor’s Xperience Volumising Mascara comes in quite handy for a quick cat-eye style, as does M.A.C Penultimate Eye Liner.
