Of late, I have been experiencing distorted vision especially when I try to see faraway objects, please help?
These symptoms usually indicate the presence of a condition called myopia or short sightedness. Ideally, such problems occur due to abnormalities in the shape of the eyeball. However, sometimes, the increasing age of the individual also tends to affect the working of the focusing ability of the eye.
There are several types of problems associated to such distortion in vision. Therefore, it is best advised to visit an eye specialist at the first available opportunity to determine the cause and get it treated as well.
My eyes tend to feel dry and itchy at short intervals. I have tried lubricating them with eye drops but that does not seem to help for a long duration of time. Please advice?
Dry and itchy eyes are common in this region because of the environment with hot weather, dust and constant air conditioning. Most of the time, this problem can be treated through the regular use of eye lubricants and there are a variety of these around. It may be a matter of trying out which suits you best or asking your ophthalmologist. Depending on your work, taking regular breaks from the computer and humidifying the room may also be useful in reducing the problem. In severe cases, you should consult an eye care professional / ophthalmologist.
I have been diagnosed with hypertension. Will the disease end up damaging my vision in the long run? If yes, please advice on the preventive measures that can help curtail the extent of damage.
On its own, uncontrolled hypertension can have direct effects (on the retinal blood vessels, and optic nerve) and indirect effects (blood clots) on the eye, with potentially serious consequences. Good control of blood pressure is therefore vital in these cases. The prevention of any eye disease starts with regular eye examinations which can so often provide an indicator of the blood pressure control.
Can you please tell us about some common types of eye allergies that we need to watch out for? Also, can you give us a guideline that we can follow in order to avoid these eye allergies?
There are three main types of allergies that may cause some common forms of eye irritations. Firstly, contact allergy – this arises due to physical contact with an irritant like remnants of cosmetics and makeup, etc. , seasonal allergies, and perennial allergies caused by environmental or lifestyle factors. The key to managing these allergies is to use a blend of preventive measures and treatment methods to minimize the impact as much as possible.
