Gucci Bamboo sunglasses: An inspiring blend of expert craftmanship and refined savoir-faire

Gucci’s Bamboo sunglasses represent a new and exclusive reinterpretation of the Florentine House’s celebrated icon: an inspiring blend of a rich heritage and superior manufacturing techniques, perfectly conveying Gucci’s sense of contemporary luxury.

03saldatura_IMG_0070These exclusive sunglasses, presented for Spring/Summer 2013 and offered in a variety of new versions for the following seasons, are characterized by details in natural bamboo cane and the Gucci laser signature on the lenses, making these sunglasses highly distinctive and iconic.

Each pair of sunglasses is the result of unique and expert workmanship. To begin, the eyewear is drawn by hand with maximum precision, and then turned into three-dimensional models, whose proportions and volumes are exquisitely fine-tuned until geometric perfection is reached.

The eyewear production process of the glasses starts with the manufacturing of the front and temples, by bending, welding and hand-polishing the metal profiles, bringing the shape to life. The production of the lenses also involves a variety of fine techniques – ranging from shaping to laser engraving the Gucci logo on the lenses – revealing supreme mastery and skill.

07assemblaggio_IMG_0165The treatment of bamboo, a historical material used by the House’s Florentine artisans since 1947, is crucial in the realization of these unique glasses. The bamboo elements are accurately selected based on their size: only the smallest pieces are suitable for use as eyewear inserts.

Each element undergoes exquisite treatment – the utmost expression of the tradition of excellency that has always characterised the House’s creations. The skilful bending technique ensures perfectly shaped detailing, whilst the heating, manually treated on each piece of bamboo, removes all the moisture, also lending the bamboo its typical warm nuance. The Bamboo cane is finally wax-finished with a protective coating which prevents weathering and gives the glasses a longer life.

Assembly is the last stage in this fascinating manufacturing process. The bamboo details are finally joined to the metal frame and lenses.

The Gucci Bamboo Collection is the result of meticulous handcrafted treatments in every stage. A unique combination of skilled techniques, unparalleled expertise and constant quality control ensures perfection of detail and products of impeccable quality.
