UK Eyewear trends for Spring/Summer 2013

UK blogger Siu who blogs at ‘My Glasses and Me’ shares her opinion on all that’s trending in the world of eyewear

Spring has arrived and summer is just around the corner. I am always excited about summer because it means warmth and the fashion is always that much more colourful and playful! Optical wearers; do not fret because we too are in for a treat with fashion trends influencing the eyewear industry.

For spring/summer 2013, many exciting trends are catching on such as bright, floral, mono and stripes. The trends that I am most looking forward to wearing are bright (think bright colours!) and stripes.

1I think with the gloomy economy that is happening worldwide and for me living in the UK forever facing a grey sky, a bright pair of glasses will be the accessory to brighten up the days! I do think designers are trying to go brighter and braver with their colour palette this season because with the recession, using bright colours may be the easiest way to inject a bit of fun back into life. With this bright trend, there are no restrictions as to what colours you should wear, as long as they are bright and you are brave enough then that is all that matters. For me, I am eyeing a pair of tangerine orange frames from EyeRespect (see image 1) because it suits my skintone and I will definitely be rocking the bright trend in style. I would say go as bright as you dare!

Stripes are back and they are back with a vengeance

2If you think stripes have been done before, then think again because for spring / summer 2013 stripes have been mixed in with a bit fun and colour to create different patterns. Thanks to designers such as Marc Jacobs for revamping the style. With this trend, you can go as stripy as you like with the whole arm being covered or just the inside of the arm. One rule I will say about stripes is don’t go crazy and wear too much at once otherwise it will be a fashion police moment. Use just one key piece to make a statement.  After all, glasses are on your face and everyone can see them straight away so there’s no need to go overboard. My choice of glasses for this trend will be m.kenics (see image 2) because the stripe detail is subtle but it is there and it is bang on trend!
