Gucci introduces new flora eyewear for Spring/Summer 2015 featuring the iconic Flora motif

For the Spring/Summer 2015 optical and sunglasses collection, Gucci took to floral theme in a new interpretation featuring the iconic Flora motif. The signature pattern is tied to Gucci’s history as it dates back to 1966, when Rodolfo Gucci commissioned illustrator Vittorio Accornero to create the most beautiful print he could imagine for Princess Grace of Monaco. The ‘Flora’, a sumptuous, multi-hued, flowered template was thus destined to become a classic.

The Flora sunglasses and optical frames are designed using the Optyl technique, providing for an ultra-lightweight plastic material that allows a fine sheet of the delicate Flora scarf to be included in the frame. They are available in green, pink, beige and crystal with all-over Flora pattern or black and Havana with the Flora pattern in the inner part of the frame, paired with subtle shaded lenses. The collection includes four sunglasses and three optical frames as well as two Asian Fit styles.

As part of a worldwide eco-friendly program designed to progressively reduce the company’s impact on the environment, Gucci sunglasses feature 100% recyclable packaging with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper, while the unique foldable cases minimise stock space, limiting both the weight and amount of shipments and in turn helping to reduce 60% of CO2 emissions. Following the House’s environmental commitment, Gucci eyewear collections include sunglasses and optical frames in bio-based acetate, a special material that contains a higher than usual proportion of natural components, as well as sunglasses made in Liquid Wood, a bio-based and eco-friendly material that represents an alternative to the plastic generally used in the production of eyewear. Liquid Wood is made from bio-based materials: wood fiber from sustainably managed forests, lignin from paper manufacturing processes and natural wax.
